Flu bug forces Apple Springs to close school

APPLE SPRINGS, TX (KTRE) - Low attendance due to the flu has forced Apple Springs ISD to close all campuses until Dec. 14.

Superintendent Gregg Spivey said about 40 children did not come to school today. Less than 200 are enrolled in the school.

Spivey said seven of the cases are confirmed H1N1 flu and nine are of the seasonal flu.

He said attendance was below 50 percent today at the elementary school, which is for third through sixth grade.

Apple Springs ISD is located about 18 miles west of Lufkin, off Highway 94 West on FM 2501 with an enrollment of about 185 students.
