NACOGDOCHES, TX (PRESS RELEASE) - The Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the U. S. Marshall's Service (Beaumont) safely rescued a female victim that had been held against her will for several weeks and apprehended the suspect, identified as Sergio Sanchez, 25.
Deputies made contact with Sanchez and the victim around 2 p.m. at a poultry farm located in Northern Nacogdoches County and arrested Sanchez on a warrant of Unlawful Restraint (F-3). He was also charged with Resisting Arrest after he struggled briefly with officers during the arrest. Additionally, Sanchez's brother, Santo Sanchez, 21, was arrested at the scene for Hindering Apprehension of a Felon (F-3) after he purposefully attempted to aid his brother in avoiding the arrest.
Sergio Sanchez had been wanted on felony charges since late Oct. 2009, after the Sheriff's Office received a report that the victim had been taken against her will by Sanchez. The victim had only been heard from once since that time when she was able to briefly establish telephone contact with a family member in Mexico before Sanchez discovered her on the phone and interrupted the conversation. It is believed that Sanchez moved the victim to different locations and surrounding counties over the past several weeks. The victim had been in a relationship with Sanchez prior to her abduction and The Center Police Department had previously handled Sanchez for assaulting her in Aug. 2009.
Both Sergio and Santo Sanchez remain in custody in the Nacogdoches County Jail and both have holds placed upon them by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Our investigators did a great job of staying on top of leads and gathering information to help solve this case. We are glad to have rescued this victim and freed her from her captor. We are appreciative of the assistance we received from both the U. S. Marshall's Service and the Center Police Department.
