Two suffer serious injuries in Lufkin wreck

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Huntington man and woman are being treated for life-threatening injuries following a two-vehicle wreck on Chestnut Street Thursday afternoon, according to a Lufkin Police officer.

Sgt. David Walker said a man was driving his Chevy Silverado northbound in the inside lane when Richard Nerren, 19, driving a Dodge Intrepid with Kayla Jane Francis, 18, as passenger, pulled in front of him from Bartmess Street. The man driving the Silverado hit the Intrepid at highway speed.

Nerren and Francis were transported to Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Walker said.

Officer Eduardo Ibarra said Nerren was listed in critical condition at a Tyler hospital while an update on Francis' condition was not available.

The man in the Silverado was identified by his wife as Charles Westerman, of Lufkin.

Walker said a truck pulling a trailer in the outside lane may have impaired the vision of the man driving the Intrepid.
