Lufkin man seriously injured after accidentally shooting self

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Police say a Lufkin man suffered a serious injury after he apparently accidentally shot himself with a sawed-off shotgun at his house Thursday morning.

Police spokesman David Young said Clifton Crockett, 50, who has only one arm, was carrying the gun at his home on the 2300 block of Atkinson Drive by hooking a finger through the trigger guard. He used his hand to open his screen door which kicked the barrel of the gun back toward his body and fired the it into his groin.

Young said the investigation is still active but Crockett may face charges of possession of a prohibited weapon as the gun was sawed off shorter than allowed by law.
