NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Although the Lumberjacks' 2009 Southland Conference Championship is still fresh on the minds of SFA fans, the coaches and players are now turning their attention to the 2010 campaign. SFA released its 2010 schedule Director of Athletics Robert Hill announced Saturday morning. The upcoming schedule is highlighted by six home contests, a game at Reliant Stadium and a first-time opponent.
"SFA will once again be facing a nationally competitive schedule," said Hill. "We will be opening the season at Texas A&M, which gives our alumni in the College Station area an opportunity to see us play. We are also pleased to be playing six games at Homer Bryce Stadium."
The Lumberjacks open the season Saturday, Sept. 4, when they travel to College Station, to take on the Texas A&M Aggies. SFA will open the home portion of its schedule the following week against first-time opponent Albany from the Northeast Conference (Sept. 11).
The following week the 'Jacks will be in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to take on Northern Iowa. SFA will close out the non-conference portion of its schedule Saturday, Sept. 25, when they return home to first-year program Lamar. The Cardinals will step on the field for the first time since 1989 when the program was discontinued.
Following an open date, the 'Jacks will open Southland Conference play on the road against defending co-conference champion McNeese State (Oct. 9th). The 'Jacks' SLC home opener will be Saturday, Oct. 16 against Central Arkansas.
Saturday, Oct. 23rd, will be a historic day in the annual "Battle of the Piney Woods," as long-time rivals SFA and Sam Houston State will move their game to Reliant Stadium in Houston. The game time has not been set for the annual rivalry.
SFA will close out the month of October with a 2 p.m. game against Texas State. The game against Bobcats will be the lone afternoon home game of the season, as the rest of the 'Jacks home games are slated for a 6 p.m. start.
The 'Jacks will travel to Thibodaux, La., Saturday, Nov. 6, to take on Nicholls, before returning home for their final two games of the season. The Lumberjacks will host Southeastern Louisiana Saturday, Nov. 13, and close out the regular season Saturday, Nov. 20, with the "Battle for Chief Caddo," against Northwestern State.
