LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Sometimes dares can get gutsy, Thursday morning it got really gross.

The Burley Primary principal ate an earthworm. He agreed to eat one with the Slack Elementary P. E. Coach and Associate Principal if the students would raise money for diabetes awareness The children raise $2,000, and in return, the faculty ate live earthworms straight from the fishing section of Academy.

"I told the kids for every $500 we raise, I was going to swallow a live earthworm, thinking we'd probably raise a thousand dollars," said Slack Elementary P.E. Coach Bruce Runnels.  "Well we raised $2,000 so I just got through swallowing four live earthworms."

"Hey, it wasn't that bad at all," said Burley Primary Principal Jason Davis.  "It's for the kids and the kids enjoyed it."

"Every since I became an associate principal, I've done a lot of things I thought I'd never do, but it's fun, I'm glad I did it," said Slack Elementary Associate Principal Cathie Greer.  "It's one thing I can check off on my list of things to do in life."

For some, it was their first time eating an earthworm, but Runnels had done it before. He said it's just protein and they all said, they were very proud of the kids.
