Lufkin police cracking down on holiday car burglaries

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Holiday shopping means crowded parking lots, and this year more car burglaries in Lufkin.

Police said you should always keep your vehicle locked and never assume you're in a safe place.  Also, place everything out of site and park close to the store front or in a lighted area. This year, to combat the burglaries, police are patrolling parking lots on a new ATV.

"It's going to help us with the shopping centers because we're able to be mobile back and forth to each shopping center where we're able to cut through corners, said Lufkin Police Department Patrolman Devin Trotti.  "We're able to be more visible to people."

He said purse snatching has also been a problem this holiday season, so keep a tight hold on your purse when you shop.  Police said citizens can help by reporting any suspicious activity.
