LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – The Salvation Army Red Kettle bell ringers will officially be leaving their post Christmas Eve. This leaves only two full days for bell ringers to take in about $9,000, in order to reach this year's goal.
The Red Kettle Campaign's goal this year in Angelina County was around $70,000. According to Captain Luis Melendez of the Salvation Army, donations were still down about three thousand at this same point last year.
The Red Kettle donations fund the numerous services that the salvation army provides the community.
"We do run our social service office here providing a lot of assistance for utilities, the Salvation Army Day Center to help with the elderly," Captain Luis Melendez listed just a few of the services they provide.
If you would like to donate before the Christmas Eve deadline, bell ringers, along with their red kettles, can be found at sixteen locations around Lufkin.
