Strong winds, possible tornado cause damage in Lufkin

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Emergency crews worked throughout the night, responding to weather-related damage in Angelina County.

Just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, DPS reported a possible tornado touching down in the Lufkin Olive Garden parking lot. Upon arrival, a KTRE news crew did not observe any structural damage.

Emergency and utility crews also responded to numerous reports of downed power lines and trees across Angelina County.

The Englewood subdivision in east Lufkin saw moderate damage from the storm. Residents reported being blocked in the subdivision as downed trees blocked the roadway.  Neighbors used chainsaws to remove trees that fell on homes and cars.

Oncor Electric reported 3,000 Lufkin residents were without power late Wednesday evening. Spokesperson David Collier, did not have an estimation on when power would be restored to affected customers. Oncor is encouraging residents to report downed power lines to their service provider.

Damage to homes and buildings on Chestnut Drive, Atkinson Drive, and Timberland Drive were also reported.
