NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Three detention officers were assaulted, one stabbed, during what investigators are calling an attempted jail escape from the Nacogdoches County jail Christmas evening.

According to Sheriff Thomas Kerss, 21 year old inmate Lesedric McClain used a ball point pen to stab a jailer in the forehead in an attempt to flee his cell area.  Kerss said a portion of the pen broke off and lodged in the jailer's brow just above the right eye.

Kerss said McClain then fought with additional detention officers as they attempted to subdue him.  The inmate was secured after a brief struggle and was placed into a violence cell.  Kerss said although the inmate had verbally indicated his intent to escape during the assault, at no time was he close to exiting the confines of the jail.

The jailer that was stabbed was transported to Memorial Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and later released.

Kerss said McClain was originally arrested after he attempted to take a weapon from a Nacogdoches Police officer.  He remains jailed on the following charges and bonds totaling $195,000:  Attempting to take a weapon from an officer ($5,000), Resisting arrest/search ($2,500), Evading arrest ($2,500), Aggravated assault on a public servant ($100,000), Assault on a public servant ($25,000), Assault on a public servant ($25,000) and Attempted escape ($35,000).
