LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – As clean up continues, the Red Cross said they are strongly encouraging residents with storm damage to get tarps on their roofs.
Rain is expected to be here Tuesday and if you do need a tarp you can contact the Red Cross. In the meantime, the City has started removing debris, so make sure you separate your tree limbs from siding, metal, and brick for the city to haul off.
The City said the state is currently doing an assessment to see if we can obtain assistance.
"Right now temporary housing is the goal," said Red Cross Service Delivery Manager Glenna Harkness. "We are trying to make sure people's needs are met...and so we are coordinating with the city, the county, and the state, has come in."
The City will not qualify for FEMA assistance, but they are hoping to qualify for Small Business Administration loans, which are low interest loans for residents. The City expects word on the qualification in a few days.
Meanwhile, the American Red Cross will host a clothing and hosehold items drive Tuesday, December 28, at the Lufkin Civic Center. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Red Cross along with other local organizers will accept school uniforms, warm clothing (men, women, and children), and household goods.
On Wednesday, December 30, storm victims may come to the Civic Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to collect items they need.
