LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – The Lufkin Police Department is getting a new vehicle to patrol the town. They used an ATV they borrowed from Lufkin Parks and Recreation to patrol shopping centers during the holiday season. Now, the department has received a grant to purchase their own. It will be a marked vehicle.
"The whole purpose is high visibility, you never know about the crimes you prevent, but we also wanted to make sure that the people knew we out there and readily accessible," said Lt. David Young.
He said they also used the ATV to patrol the tornado affected area.
They plan to use it in the future at parades and other special events.
