HUDSON, TX (KTRE) – Hoops and shoes go hand in hand for the Hudson ISD and the basketball teams.  This Friday night January 8th the Hornets will host Central in a District rivalry game that will have a little more incentive going into the game.

Both coaches for the boys teams Central coach Kevin Hurley and Hudson Rob Peterson will go barefoot on the hardwood to support the Samaritans feet foundation, which supports children all over the country who don't have shoes.

This all came about when Hudson 6th grade teacher Jane Fischer was watching a basketball game in ESPN last year while watching a college basketball game. Coaches were barefoot on the sidelines supporting the cause for children who are shoeless across the world.

"Basketball coaches' high school and college around the country coach a game in their bare feet we ask fans to bring shoes it can be adult or children size or make a cash donation when they come to the game," Fischer said.

Coach Peterson said that no other game would have such the flair than the Central game because of the district rivalry that stems from both teams playing hard.

"We chose central because their similar to us because they have a basketball community with no football.  Then the idea of the central coach (Kevin Hurley) being very giving we thought it would be a good situation all around," Peterson said.

All fans are encouraged to bring a new pair of shoes or you can give a cash donation.  The girls will start approximately around 6:30p.m. The boys will begin shortly after the varsity girls action has ended.
