LUFKIN, TX (KTRE)- Several 4-H students across Angelina County are gearing up for the County fair on February 15th. Sara Read,17, is among them.

She's taking care of two goats and 25 baby chicks. They're only two days old but in six weeks, they'll be ready for the competition. Until then, it's all about keeping the baby birds warm.

"You just have to make sure the heat lamps are at a good height, to where they stay warm. And make sure that the bulbs don't put out and, make sure that it stays at about 95 degrees," explained Read.

She says after six weeks, they'll select three of the most uniform birds to show at the fair. The goal is to have them as fat and healthy as possible.
