LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Lockheed Martin has doubled the size of operations at its Lufkin facility.
The company dedicated it's new 50,000 square foot electronics fabrication and assembly facility Monday. East Texas government officials attending the dedication said the extra space is good news for the local economy.
"I hope that it's going to start directing things in a better direction than the economy has been going around the country, said Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX). "And showing others around the country, if Lockheed will come in here and have East Texans producing the control system for these missile defense rockets, then this must be a really quality work base."
The company said its original facility was designed 15 years ago to accommodate about 100 employees. However, the expansion means more space for future production growth and potentially some modest hiring.
