Lufkin's 18th annual M.L.K. Jr. celebration events

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – The events kick off on Sunday evening with the 2010 Community Awards Banquet at the Hope Center.  Monday's events include a march, induction ceremony and program.

The Concerned Citizens of Lufkin and Lufkin Independent School District are inviting everyone to come out and participate in both day's activities.  The banquet will be held at 6 P.M. and tickets cost $15 in advance or $20 at the door.  Ticket cans be purchased at the Hope Center and information is available by calling Linda Pendland at 633-6863.

The theme of this year's banquet is Mentoring so the guest speaker at the banquet will be Belinda Grace Saldana of the University of Texas- San Antonio's The Mentoring Forum.  Community awards will be given out to special mentoring programs.

On Monday, Lufkin's 18th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day march will begin at noon at the Federal Building.  The march will end at the Dunbar Hall of Honor and wrap up with the 2010 Induction Award Ceremony into the Dunbar Hall of Honor.  Two community citizens will be inducted and winning posters by L.I.S.D. second graders will be posted around the ceremony.
