LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Two passengers were taken to the hospital after a four car accident, and traffic was slowed to a crawl through the intersection of Timberland Drive and Chestnut Monday evening.

Alejandro "Alex" Escobedo, 30, struck the back of a Black Yukon driven by Stacey McCarty,45, of Lufkin in his dark blue '97 Chevy Tahoe.  After he hit the Yukon, a tan Ford F-150 rammed into him.  A small '06 Kia S-U-V then hit F-150.

According to Devin Trotti, Patrol Officer for Lufkin P.D., when Escobedo was hit from behind he swerved in an attempt to lessen the impact, but his car flipped onto its side in the process.  He sustained some abrasions on his arm.  He refused medical treatment.

The driver of the small Kia S-U-V, Vanessa Egwumba of Lufkin, was cited for an Unrestrained Child after police discovered there were 7 other passengers in her vehicle.

Ashley Arnold, 26, and her son, Cade McDonald, 7, were taken to Memorial hospital for their injuries and both discharged Monday evening.  They were passengers in the F-150 driven by her husband Randy Arnold.

The accident occurred around 4:38 P.M. Monday and was cleared by 5:15 P.M.  Timberland southbound was completely stopped the duration of the clean-up.  Chestnut and Timberland northbound were also slowed.
