Fire Moves Up Date for Scheduled Shutdown at Lufkin Paper Mill

An early Sunday morning fire at the number eight Abitibi paper mill plant has forced them to move up a planned shutdown. There were no injuries from the fire, but enough damage was done to the machine to force it to shutdown. Abitibi had planned to shutdown both the number 8 and number 2 mills because of high energy costs beginning this Sunday, March 23. That shutdown has just been moved up. The entire mill is expected to come back up April 1. The cause of fire is still under investigation.
