New Poll Shows Growing Support for Casino Gaming

A new independent poll shows that many Texans support gaming on Indian reservations. That's in the midst of a proposed bill to allow tribes within the state to operate gaming facilities on their land. The survey polled just over 1,000 Texans by phone.

60% of those polled say they favor gaming on Indian lands. Of those surveyed, 63% feel Indian tribes are sovereign governments and should have the right to make decisions on what happens on tribal lands, including casino gambling.

And 69% of those who answered think gaming is a good tool for economic development for Indians, who usually have high unemployment and poverty levels.
