LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Time is quickly running out for a good Samaritan trying to get a massive truck load of donations from East Texans to Haiti earthquake victims. He desperately needs volunteers so these good deeds aren't wasted.
With one good leg, clothing drive organizer and disabled war veteran Don Turner is on a mission, accepting donation after donation.
"I mean it's packed high and tight," said Turner. "The stuff that we have in here right now, it's going to easily fill that trailer up and I'll probably have to put some on the 14 foot trailer."
Turner said he only has one hour to unload this massive, 53 foot trailer donated to him by Brookshire Brothers. As of right now, he's doing it all by himself.
"If I don't have help and I have to do it by myself it's going to take me about 16, 18 hours," said Turner. "I mean I have to do it with one good leg. If I have to, I'll do it."
On Tuesday morning, Turner is driving to Houston to ship clothing and other donated supplies to Haiti earthquake victims. He said he can't make the trip alone.
"If anybody is out there that can help unload this truck that would be greatly, greatly appreciated," said Turner.
Turner said he'll do whatever it takes to make sure this massive truck load of donations gets in the hands of those suffering in Haiti. "God gives us the compassion in all of our hearts in East Texas to do what we have to do to help people," he said.
Now turner needs your help to complete his good deed mission. If you would like to help Turner, please call him at 936-676-6491.
