LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – A new psychiatry emergency unit will be open under the Burke Center's management this fall.  Construction has started on the crisis intervention center that will serve the twelve counties of the Deep East Texas region.

The crisis intervention center will widen the services for mental health patients in the region.  Angelina County Judge Wes Suiter believes the center will be open and operational in either September or October.

"Really unique its funded by the 12 counties of Deep East Texas - partially funded with them and the hospitals in those 12 counties; in addition, with a grant from the state," said Judge Suiter.

The crisis intervention unit will focus on getting the patients back into the community and in their own homes to finish recovering.
