KILGORE – It's hard to imagine a couple of basketball teams battling any harder to pick up a pair of tough road wins, only to see each team leave with heartbreaking losses.
The Angelina College Lady Roadrunners took Kilgore's Lady Rangers to three overtimes before falling 73-70. The Roadrunners also pushed the extra frame before falling to the Rangers 67-63.
The Lady ‘Runners travel to Paris on Wednesday, while the Roadrunners will hit the road to Shreveport to take on Bossier Parish.
Kilgore 73, Lady Roadrunners 70 (3 OT)
Add Saturday's game with the Lady Rangers to the list of frustrating losses recently plaguing the Lady Roadrunners.
The two teams needed three overtimes to decide a winner, in this case the Lady Rangers, who got a pair of free throws from Lily Abreu with 7.6 seconds to play to seal Kilgore's 73-70 win. AC's potential game-tying three pointer at the buzzer just missed, sending the Lady Roadrunners to their fourth defeat in five games.
Donia Naylor led AC with 19 points, followed by Marcy Robinson with 14 and Erica Adair and Tiara George with nine each.
Abreu led Kilgore (14-3, 7-3) with 26 points; Danyelle Oliver added 17 for the Lady Rangers.
The Lady Roadrunners (18-5, 6-5) travel to Paris on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. start.
Kilgore 67, Roadrunners 63 (OT)
Takoby Jackson hit his third three pointer of the game to cut a Kilgore lead to 59-57 with 1:10 remaining regulation, then knocked down a pair of free throws at the :17 mark to send the game to overtime.
There, the Roadrunners came up short, falling 67-63 to the Rangers Saturday in Kilgore.
Jackson finished with a team-high 17 points that included three treys. Adrick McKinney added 13 points, and Trent Brantley finished with 10 points and four blocks.
Kilgore (12-8, 6-5) got 14 points from Eric Mayo, 12 each from Dane Smith and Derron Hobbs and 11 points from Jonathan Phelps in winning their fourth straight.
AC (12-10, 6-5) will travel to Shreveport on Wednesday to take on Bossier Parish. Game time is 7 p.m.
