NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches couple who for a couple years has attempted to adopt a pair of sisters from Haiti received full custody of the girls Saturday.

According to Becky Weems, her husband, Zac, and her met the girls, Carli and Mia at a Florida hospital, where they were handed a "category one" card which meant they had full custody of the girls.

The Weems were told after the earthquake had hit Haiti that the adoption process had been sped up. Since that time, the couple has said problems in communication has sent them back and forth from airports and left them frustrated.

"We are excited that they are here, but also excited that there are not a lot more hurdles to go through as far as making them legally ours," Becky Weems said.

Monday, the Weems were on their way home to Nacogdoches after the girls had received a clean bill of health from a Houston hospital.
