Lufkin Fire puts out flames in rig

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin fire officials are investigating a Tuesday afternoon 18-wheeler fire at Charlie's Restaurant.

According to Assistant Fire Marshal Steve McCool, Nick Morris, of Corpus Christi, had stopped to eat at the restaurant and was there for about five minutes before a man told him his truck was on fire, around 2:25 p.m.

Morris attempted to get in the driver's side door, but could not because of the intensity of the fire. Morris and bystanders then broke out the window of the passenger's side and used a fire extinguisher to calm the flames enough so he could reach in and get his personal bag.

The entire truck cab was destroyed by the fire. Firefighters managed to extinguish it within ten minutes of arrival.

McCool said he did not think suspicious activity started the fire.
