Lufkin Goodwill helping qualified with taxes

By Holley Nees - email

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - For the third year in a row, Lufkin Goodwill is helping East Texans do their taxes.

Last year the organization filed 217 tax returns and brought back more than $100,000 to the community in the form of refunds. Goodwill has certified tax preparers to help anyone with up to $49,000 of gross income.

Today was the first day of the program. The room was filled with East Texans looking for free tax help.

"It means to me that we are helping people and that's what Goodwill is all about is helping people and we are here to provide a service that is free, there's no charge for you to bring your income tax return in," said Lana Hines, Goodwill finance director.

To get help, go by 301 Hill St. until April 15. You need to bring proof of ID, social security cards, birth dates, tax package, earnings statements, interest statements, last year's return and account numbers.
