Diboll Gymnasium Wall of Honor adds two community role models

DIBOLL, TX (KTRE)- Two more names appear on the Diboll Gymnasium Wall of Honor.

Fran McGilvra was honored on behalf of her husband, John McGilvra, who died December of 2009. He was a teacher, and coach for ten years at Diboll high school.

Sheila Johnson is also being honored for her achievements as a former student and Diboll basketball player.

Both individuals have been selected because they made an impression on the school and in the community.

"John would be the first one to say, it's all about the kids. It's not me," said McGilvra about her husband. "They sent many students to college on scholarships, and helped them get scholarships, which was a great thing for Diboll's school."

"To be determined in high school which helped me to go on and be successful in college and it took me overseas," said Johnson. "I went to Angelina Jr. College and then I went to LSU and from there, I went on to Madrid, Spain and Sheffield, England."

The Diboll Athletic Department says this is the second year to add names to the Wall of Honor. A special committee within the community was selected by the Diboll booster club, to choose the honorees. This year, the two names were chosen from six nominees.
