Police close intersection to investigate Thursday fatality

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches man died Thursday night after an out-of-control vehicle hit him in the eastbound lane of State Highway 21 in Nacogdoches.

According to a Nacogdoches Police report, Chantz Parker, 22, of Broaddus, was driving his 2008 Chevy pickup westbound at 6 p.m. when he attempted to pass a vehicle near the intersection of Center Highway. Parker lost control of his pickup and crossed into the eastbound lane, hitting a 1995 Nissan pickup, driven by Jason Scott, 22, causing Scott to flip his pickup.

The Jaws of Life was used to get Scott out of his vehicle. He was then transported to Memorial Hospital, where he died.

Parker was also treated for injuries at Memorial Hospital. He was later released.

Nacogdoches Police spent Friday morning and afternoon investigating the wreck and had closed the road to all through traffic. The road was open again before 3:30 p.m.
