Beaumont, TX – A major fugitive wanted on an outstanding Angelina County warrant has been arrested in Cut and Shoot, Texas by members of the U.S. Marshal Service.
Nelson Ray Murray was being sought on a warrant issued in Angelina County, Texas in 1996. The warrant charges Murray with failing to abide with the terms of his probation. Murray failed to report to his probation officer as directed, failed to notify the probation office of his change of address and failed to register as a sex offender. Murray's original conviction stemmed from an indecency with a child charge. Murray has been able to evade detection by law enforcement until February 03, 2010.
In late January 2010, Deputy U.S. Marshals in the Eastern District of Texas joined with the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal investigations Division in an attempt to locate and apprehend Murray. Investigators were able to gain information placing Murray at an address in Cut and Shoot, Texas. This information was forwarded to the U.S. Marshals in the Southern District of Texas. Armed with this information, Deputies from the Southern District of Texas were able to locate Murray at the address and take him into custody, ending his 13 year run from law enforcement. Murray is currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail.
