East Texas boy stays positive despite having cancer, family says God is with them

Spend an hour with six-year-old Titus Grigg, and you'd never know he's sick.

This week, Titus begins seven months of intense radiation followed by chemotherapy, to battle brain cancer.

"People are praying not only in this area but around the nation and around the world for Titus and for our family," said his father, Donnie Grigg.

With back and forth trips to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, Titus looks forward to when he gets to come home.

"He'll be really excited to come see his brother and sister and friends," said his mother, Amy Grigg.

In January, surgeons removed a brain tumor. Two days later, his family found out he has cancer. But doctors say it has a high curable rate.

"We know that 85 percent is good but we're just putting our faith and trust in God that he's gonna deliver and heal him," said Griggs, who is also the Executive Pastor at Harmony Hill Baptist Church in Lufkin.

"In all these things, in everything, God works to the good of those who love him and who are called according to his purpose," said Amy.

The Grigg's church family at Harmony Hill with input from Titus created "Team Titus" t-shirts.  The shirts are green for his favorite color, and have Titus's favorite bible verse, "fear not for I am with thee" printed on them.

Church members are selling these shirts and wrist bands to support Titus.

"Church family and friends have been a great support for us. Their prayers and just their support have been overwhelming," said Donnie.

The power of prayer, the family says is bringing them peace. And a reminder for Titus, of the support of friends and family which is displayed all over his room.

For now, team Titus continues to pray, for a little boy, with a big personality, and a lot of strength.

To help Titus and his family, donate to "Benefiting Titus Grigg" at First Bank and Trust. Or you can contact the Harmony Hill Baptist Church office at 936-632-1350 for more information on "Team Titus" t-shirts and bracelets.
