LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The 61st Annual Angelina County Youth Fair continued today with desserts and cheesecake judging.
Three-hundred children entered the competition in pee-wee, pre-junior, junior, and senior categories.
The young cooks can participate in nine categories including breads, cakes, cookies, pies, and cheesecakes.
One competitor tells us how she got involved in the competition.
And a three-time veteran knows what the judges are looking for.
"Well my dad showed horses when he was little and he wanted me to try it," said Kendall Jackson, a fourth-grade competitor.
"They judge on the creativity, they judge on how much you know about it," said senior Amber Delane.
Jackson made chocolate cobbler and Delane made caramel pecan cheesecake.
They are judged on the food itself, their interview, and their knowledge of their product's nutrition.
