NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Democratice gubernatorial hopeful Bill White visited East Texas today.

Former Houston mayor Bill White made stops in Nacogdoches and Lufkin.

He began his morning at Stephen F. Austin State University. The young Democrats hosted the visit, where White emphasized there's a need to create education paths to success.

"We need to move forward as a state," White said. "We can't stand still. We have some of the highest dropout rates in the nation. We're good people. I mean, we're hard working. We're a young state. We're a growing state, but people want better than low wage jobs with no future."

As the former state Democratic party chair, White established the first regional Democratic office in East Texas. It's now based in Lufkin, where White visited this afternoon.
