Roadrunners Fall to Lee in Baytown Lady ‘Runners Earn Win in Tyler

BAYTOWN – The Angelina College Roadrunners were running neck and neck with the Lee College Rebels for the better part of the first half of Wednesday's game in Baytown.

Then Rebel shooters began raining down threes, and the ‘Runners never recovered in a 92-74 loss, marking AC's third straight loss in conference play – with two of those losses occurring on the road.

Lee's Cedric Martin nailed three of his four treys in a two-minute spree, part of a 20-2 Rebel run that broke open a 24-24 tie at 8:37 of the first half and left the Roadrunners trailing by 15 at the half. The Rebel lead grew to as many as 26 before a late AC rally cut the margin to 13; but Lee closed it out with a pair of breakaway buckets late.

Martin finished with 21 points, while teammate Jekore Tyler led the Rebels with 23. Josh Micheaux finished with 13 and Antone Byrd 11 for Lee, now 12-16, 6-10 on the season.

AC's Takoby Jackson led five Roadrunners in double figures, finishing with 21 points that included three treys. Julien Bouil and Bamba Dioum each added 12 points, with Dioum adding nine rebounds to his totals. Antonio Holmes chipped in 11 and Adrick McKinney 10 for the ‘Runners, who slipped to 14-13, 8-8 with the loss.

In Tyler, the Lady Roadrunners held off Tyler College's Lady Apaches 72-69 behind 25 points from Marcy Robinson and 12 points from Tiara George. The Lady ‘Runners moved to 22-5, 10-5 with the win.

In Baytown, a wild and crazy first 12 minutes saw the Rebels and Roadrunners engaged in a virtual track meet, with the teams trading fast-break buckets off turnovers. AC's McKinney, who scored seven of his points in just two minutes in the middle of the first half, hit his fifth free throw to give the Roadrunners a 24-22 lead with 9:45 left in the first half.

Then the ‘Runners hit a four-minute dry spell, all while the Rebels – led by Martin – dropped in three pointers from all over the gym. Nick James, Jekore Tyler and Martin combined for six treys in the 20-2 run that put the Rebels up for good.

The Roadrunners and Lady Roadrunners will host an afternoon doubleheader with Lon Morris Saturday at Shands Gym in Lufkin. Game times are 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
