POLLOK, TX (KTRE) -Central high school held their first annual black history program today. Students organized the event that included local speakers.

Students also performed poetry pieces and a praise dance for their peers. They say it's important to get people of all races involved in the program.

"It made us feel very proud to be able to do this.  We worked really hard on it, and it felt really good that it was successful," said Jhumarcus Bellow, a Junior at Central High School.

Bellow says it's important him and others to celebrate and share their heritage. He says they plan to continue the program next year.
