LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – The importance of giving blood on a regular, year-round basis was the message of this year's "A Celebration of Life" luncheon.
The luncheon hosted annually by the Blood Center - East Texas honors groups and individuals who hold quarterly blood drives. These drives provide the life-sustaining blood that saves East Texan lives every day. One honoree says there is a vital need for blood donors all year long .
"It makes you feel good that you're doing something for the community and the people you actually know because you never know who may need it. Maybe a family member, maybe a friend, maybe a stranger," said Julie Kauitzsh.
Over 80 organizations including companies, churches and schools were awarded at the luncheon for their efforts in hosting four blood drives a year.
