LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Early voting is almost over and turnout has been low.

The Angelina county elections administrator is hoping more east Texans will come to the polls...she says the low turnout is unusual for a primary election. Only about 1,540 voters have turned out. There are 47 thousand registered in Angelina County. Now, election officials are gearing up for election day, hoping for big numbers.

"The precincts that have local candidates on the ballot are picking up more so than some of the others, but it's been a real low turnout," said Thelma Midget Sherman, Angelina County Elections Administrator.

If you haven't voted, you still have time. The substations will be open until Thursday from 8 AM to 4:30 and from 8 to 5 at the courthouse annex. On election day Tuesday, you can vote from 7 to 7 at your regular polling place. Look on your voter registration card if you need to know where that is or you can contact the tax office.
