Nacogdoches woman pleads guilty in 8-liner bust, husband loses lawyer

By Donna McCollum - email

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The Nacogdoches husband and wife charged in an alleged illegal gambling operation are taking different routes in settling the matter.

Gayla Cunningham will pay a fine as part of a plea deal.  She pleaded guilty to owning more than 70 eight-liner machines. Those will be seized by the state.

But her husband took a different path. Against the advice of his attorney, Allen Cunningham refused plea deals that came with prison sentences.

The attorney, John Heath Jr. has withdrawn from the case.

The Cunninghams were arrested last March for running a casino on FM 225.
