SFA Rugby: Two games away from state championship

NACOGDOCHES, TX (NEWS RELEASE) - The SFA rugby team has qualified for the Texas regional play offs, an accomplishment that will place SFA in the Texas State Championship playoffs with a victory on Saturday, March 6, 2010.

SFA set the platform for the playoff qualification by achieving a unbeaten record in their division and achieving maximum points to position themselves at the top of the Texas Collegiate Men's Rugby Division 3 table. A resounding 72-0 win against Saint Edwards University of Austin on February 13th 2010, set the tone for achieving an undefeated record.

This weekend SFA maintained that undefeated record with a very hard fought match against a representative side from various San Antonio Colleges. The final score of this match was SFA 28, SA 23. By finishing top of their league, SFA automatically qualify for a semi-final place in the promotional battle to the higher collegiate division.

The semi-final play off opponents will be a return match versus St. Edwards University . The game will kick off at the SFA intramural fields on Saturday 6th March starting at 2 pm.

Come and support: your town, your university, your fellow collegiate members, your fellow sports athletes and brave colleagues who play a full contact sport without pads or helmets. If you want to see exciting bruising, fast running, hard tackling, ball handling sporting action, where the ball and thirty players are constantly in motion for eighty minutes, come to the game this weekend.

If you do not understand rugby, do not worry there will be plenty of coaching staff available to explain the rules and game tactics. In order to be successful, SFA needs to constantly recruit new players to their rugby squad.

The coaching staff will be available to discuss and recruit new members who want to learn, train and play for SFA. The training sessions are held at the intramural fields Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday starting at 4 p.m.
