Morgan Thomas joined the East Texas News Team in November 2009 as a video journalist. She began her journalism career at KRBC-TV in Abilene, where she was Weekend Anchor and Producer and weekday reporter. She left that position to pursue a Masters Degree in Communication at the University of Houston. She worked full-time while going to graduate school as a creative marketing consultant where she wrote, produced and directed radio and television commercials.
While working on her master's thesis, Morgan worked in the state capital for the Office of the Texas Governor's Appointments Division where she researched and recruited potential governmental appointees. During this time she was an on-camera host and moderator for the Jewelry Channel.
Morgan attended the University of Texas at Austin where she earned a BS in Communications and was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. Morgan spent a semester attending college in Italy and traveling Europe.
Morgan's interest in TV news began when she accompanied her dad during the annual "Take Your Daughter to Work Day." After spending the day with her father at a television station in Houston, Morgan was sure she would one day work in the business. Morgan's TV experience officially began when she was selected to attend a special high school academy for broadcasting. While attending the academy, she produced and moderated several school programs and won awards for her productions.
Morgan's East Texas roots run deep. She was born in Tyler, her grandfather was born and reared in Garrison and her parents met while attending Stephen F. Austin State University.
Morgan is a crafter; teaching herself to crochet and makes afghan blankets for her family and friends. She loves watching Longhorn football, she's an avid reader, enjoys movies and the theater and her favorite guilty pleasure is playing the video game "The Sims."
She has a yellow Labrador retriever named Annabelle who keeps her company when she isn't covering the latest news for KTRE.
