Lufkin woman receives congressional gold medal

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - By Morgan Thomas - email

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -A very important award was hand-delivered to a 90-year-old this morning.

Jacqueline Morgan touched her Congressional Gold Medal for the first time.

Her son was in Washington D.C. yesterday to receive the medal in her honor, and flew straight to Lufkin to hand-deliver it to its rightful owner.

Morgan flew AT6 planes that dragged targets through the air for recruits to practice shooting before heading off overseas during World War II.

"It's an honor. There were women who did as much or more than I did. But I feel very honored," said Morgan.

"To receive this medal for my mother was the greatest honor I think I've had in my life," said Ben Morgan.

"This medal is a long time coming. Some of the recipients of this medal were George Washington, Mother Theresa," said Havey Morgan

A law has to be passed in Congress before anyone can receive a Congressional Medal of Honor.
