Census has designated committee to count East Texas institutions

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – The Big Count is here and U.S. Census workers are doing everything they can to make sure everyone is counted this time around.

The Census said they have a designated group to count institutions like the Lufkin State Supported Living Center.  And while the population of the Angelina County Jail may fluctuate, they also have a committee focused on ensuring that facility undergoes an accurate count.

"People are counted where they live the majority of the time," explained U.S. Census Bureau Spokesperson Eduardo Guity.  "So, people who live in dorms will get counted in the dorms.  Those who are counted in prison, obviously will get counted in prison."

He said these people will not count as members of your household because they don't live there the majority of the time.

Also, the Census forms should arrive by mail soon.

The committee is asking that you fill-out and return them promptly.
