LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Texas Department of Public Safety troopers want folks to be aware of distracted drivers on the roadways during spring break.

Their first concern: speed. The number one factor behind accidents and fatalities is exceeding the speed limit. Also, make sure every person in your vehicle wears a seatbelt - front and back seat. Finally, alcohol - spring break has always created problems with drinking and driving. State Trooper Greg Sanchez reiterated the risks involved with alcohol.

"We know that alcohol is the number one contributing factor in a lot of young people's collisions on the roadways out there," said Trooper Sanchez.

D.P.S. wants all drivers to be aware of impaired drivers either from drinking or distractions, like text messaging and driving. Avoid cars performing unusual driving maneuvers like wide turns, running stop signs and weaving out of their lanes.
