Stop Sign Vandals putting the public’s safety at risk

Grapeland, TX (KTRE)- Stealing road signs can have deadly consequences.

During a recent patrol - TxDOT found 13 missing stop signs in Northeast Houston County around Grapeland. Four were missing from Fm 2022 and seven were missing Fm 228. TxDOT immediately replaced all missing stop signs.

Removing or vandalizing traffic signs creates unsafe conditions for drivers. If caught stealing signs you could face fines up to a thousand dollars and up to two years in jail. According to TxDOT - replacing vandalized road signs cost Texas taxpayers about two and a half million dollars annually.
