Angelina College cheer squad holding auditions

LUFKIN, TEXAS-The Angelina College Cheer Squad will hold a clinic and auditions for the 2009-2010 seasons from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  on Saturday, April 10th. Applications and other required documentation must be submitted by Wednesday, April 7th at the Shands Activity Center on the Angelina College campus.

Students selected as members of the Angelina College Cheer Squad will be awarded scholarships in the amount of $600.00 per semester to apply toward the cost of tuition and fees for each participating semester.

Each Cheer Squad member will be issued the necessary uniforms, and when necessary, provided with all travel, lodging and meal expenses for out of town games.  All expenses for summer camp will be provided by Angelina College as well.

"Being an Angelina College Cheerleader is considered an honor, fun and sometimes glamorous; however, it is a lot of hard work that requires service and dedication on the part of the cheerleader," Jim Twohig, AC's Dean of Students, said.

"Cheer Squad members represent Angelina College and are held to a higher standard because of their position.  Cheerleaders at Angelina College are expected to maintain a high level of academic achievement and citizenship."

Those participating in Cheer Squad auditions must be admitted to Angelina College prior to June 1, 2010. Students on disciplinary or scholastic probation are ineligible.

In addition, each Cheer Squad member must maintain a course load of 12 hours or more during the fall  and spring semesters, and must establish and maintain a cumulative grade point average in  accordance with the scholastic requirements of the College as stated in the General Catalog.

Included with the audition application must be a current high school and/or college transcript, a letter of recommendation from current sponsor/coach, and a recent photograph.    

The names of new Cheer Squad members will be posted within one hour of the conclusion of the auditions.  There will be a mandatory meeting and uniform fittings from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. the same day. (Saturday, April 10, 2010).
