LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Many Lufkinites are wearing purple today for epilepsy awareness.
Margeaux Johnson, 8, has epilepsy and she was recently named the Purple Day ambassador for Lufkin. She was able to get her school, Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics offices across Texas, and the Lufkin State Supported Living Center to wear the color. She says she just wants people to know that millions of Americans live with the disorder and it's nothing to be scared of.
"It doesn't make me any different from anyone else," Johnson said. "It's just something I live with and no one should be afraid of me just because I have it."
She wants people to know they cannot catch epilepsy from her and she plans to make Purple Day an annual tradition.
