Man drives into Lake Pinkston to avoid wreck

SHELBY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Some East Texans spent all day fishing at Lake Pinkston in Shelby County. Not for fish, but a pick-up truck.

A 2009, 4-door, Z-71 pick-up is fully submerged after Randall Gilchrist had to swerve off the road to avoid a head-on collision with another truck.

Depth finders and drag lines were used to try to locate the truck in the 18-foot water.

At last report, they're still hunting.

"I swam out and got on the bank and I started walking to the house up the road to get some help and the same vehicle that run me off the road turned back around and passed me back up," Gilchrist said. "I tried to flag 'em down and stop 'em and they passed me up again."

Gilchrist describes the truck as a late model, extended-cab Chevrolet, dark in color.

Call the DPS or Shelby County sheriff's department if you have any information that could help authorities.
