Lufkin woman dies in two-vehicle collision

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE)-  A Lufkin woman died Friday after striking an oncoming vehicle on Highway 21 east, in Nacogdoches County.

According to the DPS report, Suzy Barker, 61, was driving her 2009 Toyota Matrix westbound, 15 miles east of Nacogdoches, at 2:46 p.m. when she crossed the center line and struck a 2007 Dodge Ram towing a trailer, driven by Ricky Cates, of Lufkin, who was headed eastbound.

Barker was pronounced dead at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital Saturday at 7:12 a.m. by Dr. Bonsukan.

Based on the report, Cates was not injured, and there were no passengers riding in either vehicle.

Barker was wearing her seatbelt, and next of kin have been notified.

The crash was investigated by trooper Gary Rudisill.
