POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A married couple was killed after the wife rear-ended an 18-wheeler while driving north of Goodrich Monday morning, according to a Department of Public Safety report.

Albert Alameda Jr., 54, of Van Vleck, had pulled out of a truck stop and reached highway speed when he was rear-ended by a 2006 Chevy Impala, driven by Ruth Peoples, 79, of Manny, La., at 9:49 a.m., the DPS report stated.

Ruth Peoples was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:02 a.m.

Her husband, Melvin Peoples, also 79, was pronounced dead at 11:33 a.m. at a Livingston hospital.

Alameda is listed in good condition with a concussion at a Livingston hospital.

A spokesperson with DPS said an autopsy was ordered on Ruth Peoples to determine if other factors contributed to her rear-ending the rig.
