Host / Sponsor of activity:

Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, Texas

Brief description of activity and station participation:

The participants attended Stephen F. Austin State University’s Spring Business, Industry, Government and Graduate School Career Day. Current job opportunities and internships at KTRE, as well as long term career possibilities in broadcasting, were discussed with the students. Attending students were to leave resumes, and employment applications were available for those wishing to be considered for current or future openings. The KTRE representative also discussed general information about broadcast employment options and answered students’ questions about specific areas of work in broadcasting. Literature concerning careers in television broadcasting was also made available to students. A total of 408 students were in attendance.

Brief description of activity and station participation:

Approximately 40 Angelina County high school students who were members of “Leadership Tomorrow” toured KTRE-TV facilities. Shawn Clynch (Sports Director) gave them an orientation of sports responsibilities. Katie Green (Weekend Weather Anchor) gave them a tour of the Weather Center and discussed responsibilities of a meteorologist. Tina Alexander Sellers (News Director) discussed careers in broadcasting.

Brief description of activity and station participation:

Tina Alexander Sellers (News Director), Donna McCollum (Nacogdoches Bureau Chief), Wade Cameron (Reporter/Photographer), and Jay Williams (Weekday News Anchor) participated via the Internet in several class projects for a communication class from Harlingen, Texas. In ongoing interviews (Q & A) via the Internet, students learned about careers in broadcasting, and life as a TV journalist.
