LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – The biggest weekend in Groveton begins Friday night.
The third annual Bear Chase Marathon kicks off with a pasta dinner for racers at Groveton High School.
The marathon, half marathon and 5-K will get started around 7 A.M. on Saturday.
Runners will take a loop through the forest on paved and dirt roads beginning and ending at the high school.
"The proceeds go to finance some of the projects of the chamber," said Paul Snyder, Executive Director of Trinity County Chamber of Commerce.
Some of the money also goes to local philanthropic organizations.
Last year the marathon raised around $20,000.00. Runners can register the day of the race.
