TRINITY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Two brothers were arrested Thursday night and charged in connection with injury to a Centerville ISD superintendent. A Trinity County deputy was also injured during the arrest.

Trinity County Chief Deputy Billy Patton said Brian Truss, 38, of Groveton, and Steven Truss, 35, of Groveton, confronted Robert Welsh after a school board meeting Thursday night.

The school board meeting drew a large crowd as possible layoffs were discussed.

Patton said Steven Truss hit Welsh twice in the back of the head. Lufkin Memorial records show he was treated and released Friday morning.

Steven Truss is charged with assault on public servant and assault to public servant with bodily injury. Brian Truss is charged with criminal trespassing. Both bonded out of jail Friday morning.

An official at Centerville ISD said the board decided to keep a pre-K program that was up for discussion, but to discontinue the Family Career and Community Leaders of America program. It was not yet clear how many, if any, jobs would be cut as a result of that.
